The Power of Purple!

I love purple, always have, but felt self-concious wearing it. It was much more acceptable as décor rather than on me, but as it was ‘the’ colour of 2012, its everywhere and yes, I’m wearing it, and when I do I’m reminded of the wonderful imagery – a ‘Warning’ to all concerned, that’ll be me soon? What? I am already – nah, the best is yet to come!

When I grow old I shall wear purple

Warning

by Jenny Joseph

WHEN I AM AN OLD WOMAN I SHALL WEAR PURPLE

With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me.

And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves

And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.

I shall sit down on the pavement when I’m tired

And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells

And run my stick along the public railings

And make up for the sobriety of my youth.

I shall go out in my slippers in the rain

And pick the flowers in other people’s gardens

And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat

And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
,

Or only bread and pickle for a week

And hoard pens and pencils and beer-mats and things in boxes

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry

And pay our rent and not swear in the street

And set a good example for the children.

We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?

So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised

When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

Isn’t it a great poem? I first read it about 10 years ago and thought, it was a bit over the top, but now…..its pretty accurate!!

The Power of Purple: its a rather gorgeous and rich statement, associated with opulence, the church, royalty, luxury, decadence…….. No wonder I like it!! At Tiffinware we hope we are associated with all of the above, and of course, royalty definitely!!

Beaded Salad Servers, silver plated, hand made; candy pink and lilac

“Stunning and Sophisticated” Salad Servers, hand-made, tableware

Purple, pink and true red in glass are extremely difficult to create especially in soda glass. The colours always appear dense and rather flat, dead; they just don’t quite cut it. But we have managed a rather lovely lilac which does look fabulous with our candy pink (please see above).

The other good news is that we have produced a fab Royal Plummy Lilac for our Enamelware Collection. In fact we think we have some great colours through the whole collection – really bright, almost neon.

The enamelled Tray shown here, amongst other fun accessories, will be available online soon. As you can see, bold, bright and beautiful, we love them!
